Online / Phone Counceling
I am a Distance Credentialed Counselor and provide distance counseling options for my clients. If you’re traveling from a distance, the weather conditions are undesirable or you just want the comfort of your own home, we can still connect via distance counseling. Distance counseling may include tele-counseling (telephone), secure e-mail communication, chat, and videoconferencing.
Distance counseling is a counseling approach that takes the best practices of traditional counseling as well as some of its own unique advantages and adapts them for delivery to clients via electronic means in order to maximize the use of technology-assisted counseling techniques. The technology-assisted methods may include tele-counseling (telephone), secure e-mail communication, chat, videoconferencing or stand-alone software programs.
The Distance Credentialed Counselor (DCC) credential identifies those professional counselors who are uniquely trained in best practices for delivering traditional counseling through technological means. DCCs have met nationally established distance counseling criteria and adhere to the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) Code of Ethics and Policy Regarding the Provision of Distance Professional Services.
Advantages of Distance Counseling
1. A Good Option for Remote Areas
Distance counseling offers access to mental health information to people in rural or remote areas. Those who live in such areas simply might not have access to any other form of mental health treatment because there are no mental health practices in their geographic area. E-therapy gives these individuals access to treatment that they might not have otherwise.
2. Accessibility for Those with Physical Limitations
Distance counseling provides accessibility to individuals who are disabled or housebound. Mobility can be a big issue when it comes to accessing mental health care. Individuals who are unable to leave their home for various reasons, such as physical or mental illness, may find online therapy a useful alternative to traditional psychotherapy settings.
3. Convenience and Affordability
Distance counseling can be affordable and convenient. Since you will be attending therapy sessions from the comfort of your own home, you can often schedule your therapy sessions for times that are the most convenient for you.
Today, many states require insurance providers to cover distance counseling just as they would traditional therapy sessions. Contact your insurance company to learn more about distance counseling coverage by your policy. Distance Counseling often offers affordable treatment options for those who are not covered by health insurance.
